truths and realities before us. He strengthens his views about the theory of
impersonality in this essay also. T.S Eliot holds the view that perfection in
the work of art is achieved only when the poet and the artist remain
impersonal. He is against timid adherence to the concept of following the
tradition of the critics in the past. He is of the view that they must consider
their work of art and try to distinguish it from the other writers. A good

Murry’s views about
Criticism
MURRY believed that Romanticism is much important for him than criticism. The
idea holds the basis from the fact that he belongs to England and romanticism
was a prevalent feature of that era. He says that there is no basic ground for
the existence of the two ideas such as romanticism and criticism. Eliot
criticized him for having such a bent of mind. Murry presented his idea about
the co-existence of two different concepts. He presented the idea that there is
a possibility regarding the co-existence of religious morality and traditional
literature. He says that both of these ideas correlate and can produce a single
effect. But Eliot does not agree with his ideas about the possibility of the
co-existence of two different ideas. He condemns the idea and does not give his
consent to support the idea. He says that one should practice morality or
spirituality at one time. MURRY believes in the freedom of thinking
individually. He says that one must follow and respond to the call of his own
heart and instinct. He must follow the inner voice while creating a work of
art. But Eliot rejects his views by saying that he has n moral respect for the
values of others. He is of the view that by hearing own voice one cannot
respect the dignity of others.

role of divinity in the attainment of these desires. He tries to link human
affairs with divinity. Eliot does not agree with the whole discussion. He holds

remain bound to his thoughts and search for perfection.
